Byron Sonberg, FCPA, FCA

Byron Sonberg was the first CPA to join Goodmans LLP, where he spent three decades shaping the day-to-day operations, governance and culture of one of Canada’s leading law firms. As Managing Director, he helped steer the firm’s prudent fiscal management and guided it through challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic with clarity and care. Byron is proudest of the trust placed in him and the positive impact he had on colleagues at key points in their careers.

Retiring in 2022, Byron continues to give generously of his time and expertise, serving on boards for Fighting Blindness Canada, Youth Employment Services, and Ve'ahavta and volunteering for Catalyste+, where he has advised organizations in Kenya and Canadian Indigenous communities. He is active with the Institute of Corporate Directors, bringing his experience and expertise in governance to the role. Byron is proof that CPAs can lead in any organization and encourages young CPAs to stay curious about the countless opportunities the profession provides.
