Michael Herrera, FCPA, FCA

For Michael Herrera, true success is measured by community success. As Senior Vice-President and CFO at George Brown Polytechnic, he drives strategic transformation benefitting 30,000 students annually, in addition to faculty and the broader Canadian workforce. Overseeing over $400 million in operating funds, Michael introduced the college’s first 10-year financial forecasting model, which allowed for long-term capital planning. He has also held leadership roles at United Way of Greater Toronto, the Anglican Church of Canada and Ernst & Young Canada, where he championed sustainability and ethical investing long before ESG became mainstream.
Michael has helped build a strong cultural and social legacy through volunteer leadership with Crow’s Theatre, the Philippine Independence Day Council and Making the Shift Canada, a youth homelessness prevention initiative. As an openly gay Filipino-Canadian, he hopes to show young people who might feel “different” that FCPAs can be “different” too. Known for making complex financial concepts accessible, he believes in using that superpower to give back by creating an impact that reaches far beyond the balance sheet.
