Mature Student Registration
As part of the CPA Ontario student registration process, you will have the option of choosing the Mature category. You should apply under this category only if you have at least eight years of relevant accounting or business experience with proficiency in two Level 1 competency areas. You do not need to hold a post-secondary degree to register under this category.
Experience used to determine entry under the Mature category is separate from the CPA Practical Experience Requirements.

What do I need to know?
How long does it take to process my application?
Currently, it takes four to six weeks to process an assessment package once payment and all required documents have been received. If you are submitting transcripts from outside of Canada, please allow six to eight weeks for processing.
Student registration applications typically take 10 business days once we receive all documents and payment. Processing times will take longer during peak times or if there are any character or bankruptcy declarations.
When can I begin the CPA Professional Education Program (CPA PEP)?
You must complete the academic prerequisite requirements through a post-secondary institution or CPA preparatory courses before starting CPA PEP.
What should be included in the reference letters?
Letters of reference should be current dated, and come from individuals who have known the applicant for at least one year including one from a CPA Ontario (or another CPA provincial/territorial body) Member in good standing, one from a current employer, and one from a non-professional contact attesting to the applicant’s personal character.
The letters should speak to the desire, capacity and commitment the student will bring to the CPA designation.
