Transitioning to the New CPA Professional Program

While we anticipate that most candidates currently enrolled in CPA PEP will have an opportunity to finish the program, there is a transition plan to the new CPA Professional Program for those who are eligible and unable to complete the current program by December 20281.

CPA PEP modules and exams you have passed along with practical experience that has been approved by CPA Ontario will be recognized in the new program.

How does transitioning work?

  • There will be a 24-month transition period from January 2027 to December 2028. If you are eligible, you can transition your education, experience, or both to the CPA Professional Program.
  • If you transition your education before having passed the CFE, you will be required, at a minimum, to complete the Professional Readiness module and the Professional Final Exam III. Please refer to our transition chart to see which modules you can be exempt from based on what you have successfully completed in the current program.
  • If you transition your Practical Experience, any experience which has been approved by CPA Ontario will be considered for recognition.
  • Eligible students that transition to the new CPA Professional Program and who have less than seven years remaining in their current timeline on December 31, 2028, will receive up to three years of additional time to complete the new program, to a maximum of seven years.
